Life's been good to me so far :)

It really has been a good week as I look back on it...

Work is really going well for me. Late last week we were tasked with creating a brand new department which was originally slated to be called the "Submission Department". I actually found massive humor in that title (and Barry damn near giggled himself to death when I told him) but the team lead couldn't get her head around it, so we've decided that we're "Setup and Post Closing" instead. In a week's time we've taken it from an idea to a fully functional operation and I'm totally proud of us.

The 30th birthday party is shaping up into an event. Rsvps to the Evite are rolling in and I'm planning to make the reservations this weekend so that we have a cabin (or cabins, depending) reserved. I've recruited Bitchy Girl to help me organize it so that we have a smooth trip and have already gotten volunteers for cooking/grilling. I really want this to be Barry's most memorable birthday…

Which alcoholic drink are you?

Words of wisdom

Here's a little something that I thought was worth sharing from my inbox...hope everyone has a great day!

A truly creative person rids him or herself of all self-imposed limitations.

Forgiveness means letting go of the past.

I can have peace of mind only when I forgive rather than judge.

Inner peace can be reached only when we practice forgiveness. Forgiveness is letting go of the past, and is therefore the means for correcting our misperceptions.

Love is the total absence of fear. Love asks no questions. Its natural state is one of extension and expansion, not comparison and measurement.

Other people do not have to change for us to experience peace of mind.

Peace of mind comes from not wanting to change others.

The best way to navigate through life is to give up all of our controls.

Through our willingness to help others we can learn to be happy rather than depressed.

When I am able to resist the temptation to judge others, I can see them as teachers of forgiveness in my life, reminding me…

I raise a glass to Hunter

I don't have any idea why you did it, but I'm sure you had a very good reason. I celebrate your life with a drink in your honor. You will be missed.

It's great to be employed!

This is the first morning in about six months that I haven't hit the job boards as a part of my morning internet routine. What a blessing! Now my time will be more free to do the things that I want to be doing...yay!

The birthday party plans are coming along nicely. I've found us a state park to go to and the Evite is ready to be sent out. I'm waiting to hear back from Angry Jon about whether Sarah will be a co-celebrant as her 30th is in April. Once I know that info, the Evites will be heading towards people's mailboxes...

We rearranged furniture a bit yesterday in order to have a bookshelf in the bedroom and to move the girls' "step stool" to the kitchen counter. Rory is pretty cheesed off that she can't get all into the sink area but I'm thrilled that I can stop yelling at her. Silly kitty, no people food for you! :) The change of landscape in the apartment will continue as Ken is giving us his computer desk one night this week. Barry is so very …

Kids on Love

Here's something kinda cheesy but really sweet from my inbox...

What is love? A group of professional people posed this question to a group of 4 to 8 year-olds, "What does love mean?" The answers they got were broader and deeper than anyone could have imagined. See what you think.....

"When my grandmother got arthritis, she couldn't bend over and paint her toenails anymore. So my grandfather does it for her all the time, even when his hands got arthritis too. That's love." Rebecca- age 8

"When someone loves you, the way they say your name is different. You just know that your name is safe in their mouth." Billy - age 4

"Love is when a girl puts on perfume and a boy puts on shaving cologne and they go out and smell each other." Karl - age 5

"Love is when you go out to eat and give somebody most of your French fries without making them give you any of theirs." Chrissy -age 6

"Love is what makes you smile when you're tired.…

I got a job! *GASP*

Yes kids, it's true...the job hunt has finally (and thankfully) ended. Barry and I had a long Talk Tuesday night during which we ran the numbers on the permanent position with the title company I've been temping at. With his new gig we are able to afford for me to take a little less than what I had been making before, thus enabling me to make my move into the title world. I don't even think I can begin to describe how happy and relieved I am to have found a place that I truly enjoy going to every day. The team is great and the manager is awesome. Looks like the company doesn't suck either. ;-) The position I am starting in is an entry to this side of the industry and the company is going to help me get my notary and my escrow officer's license when the time comes, woohoo! A job with opportunity for quick advancement, yay!

Above and beyond all of these wonderful things, this job will get me employment when the time comes for us to relocate to N'Awlins. Since they…

It's been a week, oops!

It's funny how quickly time passes because it certainly doesn't seem like a week has passed since I posted here last. Of course, I've been struggling with the unemployment blues quite a bit which makes it hard to want to share. :)

On the job front, no news is no news. I haven't heard back from my interview of last week but I did make a follow up phone call yesterday and confirmed that no second interviews have been conducted yet. At least that one's not about me, right? ;-) My resume is out several new places so hopefully something will happen with that. I'm going to update my resume prolly tonight to reflect my temporary work so that it doesn't look like a big employment gap.

Barry and I did some math Tuesday night to see if there is any way I can afford to stay at the title company I'm temping for. It would be tight, but once the bonuses kicked in I think we would be better off than we were before. My ego hates to take that kind of pay cut but what'…

Back to the old drawing board :-(

Wow, it's amazing to me how quickly things can change! In the last 48 hours, the two strong job leads that I had have both gone sideways for one reason or another. The place I interviewed twice and was expecting the offer from actually turned me down based on my credit history. Seems wierd cuz my bankruptcy was two years ago this month, but whatever. The title company I'm temping at can't afford to even come close on my salary requirements which makes it not possible for me to even consider. The good news in all of this is that I've been guaranteed a temp position for as long as I need it along with the flexibility of getting time off to interview without question. I also talked to her about an increase in my hourly temp pay which should hopefully be negotiated today by my agency. I'm going to try and get them a couple of resumes to help them fill the spots that they do have open, since it's obviously a place I would work myself.

I had an interview yesterday mo…

Happy Fat Tuesday!

Just a quick note to remind everyone to eat Cajun food, drink Hurricanes and listen to Zydeco music tonight!

The best laid plans...

You know what they say about the best laid plans? Heh, it happened to us this weekend cuz we didn't up doing a single thing we had originally planned to do.

Saturday night we ended up having to cancel on the Mardi Gras party because we couldn't find a place to crash in Tarrant County and were not comfy trying to crash at someone's house we didn't know. We ended up getting a group to go out to Cedar Springs and bar hop instead which was *soooooo* fun! They just recently remodeled the Village (now called Station 4) so we went to check that out. It is somewhat changed inside but they did add a whole section to the second floor which was quite entertaining to check out. Also there's a glassed-in non-smoking area upstairs now. Heh, the non-smoking section at the zoo! LOL! We grabbed Tim and cabbed it to the bars from Andy and Keith's house so that we could all drink and not have to worry about it. Drink we did too! Extra special thanks to Kelly for driving our drunk…

Is it Saturday already?

Man, I can't believe I haven't updated this thing with news of Jen since Tuesday. Ah well, it's been a busy week.

So Wednesday I ended up spending almost all morning at that stupid interview only to figure out that the place is a sweat shop and I definitely am not interested in working there. I guess I had to go find out, huh? My afternoon interview went well I think, and I expect an offer to come shortly. Not sure I'll take it but hey, you never know. My resume is officially in and negotiations will commence shortly on the place I'm doing the temp thing. I think this is my favorite place so far cuz I really really like the manager and I fit well with the rest of the team. My biggest concern is that they won't be able to afford to keep me. I won't know more until Tuesday on that one. Either way, I am going to require a raise in order to even stay on temp there...the pittance they are paying me is definitely not enough to justify all the things I do. It was …

Sometimes you just can't tell what may happen

So here I was this morning predicting the end of my temp assignment, but the day had a strange surprise for me. About half the office called in sick today (the flu is running rampant through the place) so I got to really show my stuff. The boss-lady noticed and now wants to see my resume, woohoo! I've got tomorrow off to do my interviews but I'm taking my resume in on Thursday morning when I go back. We've already discussed my salary requirements and she didn't even flinch. Guess I've made a good impression on her, huh? LOL!

Okie, gotta go get my outfit planned for my early morning interview tomorrow. Go me!

Ugh, morning

Sleepy girl today...*yawn*...I'm sure it will get better once I ingest some of this delicious Cafe Du Monde coffee though. :)

My temp assignment continues today but I have a feeling that this will probably be the last day there. Teehee, it was awfully nice to go through a month-end and not have my own files to stress out about! Tomorrow is looking busy for me, I've got an interview in the early morning and then a second interview in the afternoon. I'm thinking that even if this temp gig continues that I won't be able to work tomorrow anyway...gotta be fresh for the business of selling myself. :) I've also got to make a follow up phone call today on an interview from last month, wish me luck!

I need to expend some energy around the house tonight, the laundry is overdue and the dishes are threatening to take over the kitchen. I also need/want to get my tax stuff ready to go to Bitchy's house so that we can get the refund in the works. Better to have money coming …
