D.E.E.P. gets press in the Observer

Reposted from Deep Ellum enrichment project's myspace bulletin... Morning kids, Fingers of Fury over at the Dallas Observer (by way of their official blog Unfair Park). Is posting some news about the DEA/DEF tiff and our little community group. Thanks bro! Justin --- Reposted from Unfair Park (www.dallasobserver.com/blogs) --- Can’t believe we went a whole day without a Deep Ellum posting. But, alas, it’s a brand-new day, and we’ve got some brand-new news, more or less: The Deep Ellum Association had separated itself from the Deep Ellum Foundation. For background on the spat between the two entities, read Andrea Grimes’ item on it last week, but the result is a brand-new Web site called Save Deep Ellum!, which the DEA launched when it lost control of the “official” Deep Ellum Association Web site. (The DEA also lost its longtime home, thanks to DEF members’ getting the locks changed without warning.) “We have a whole new board, which is a good thing,” says DEA president Gianna Madr

Help Stop Dirty Power Plants in Texas!

Governor Rick Perry is fast-tracking a plan build 11 new, highly polluting coal-fired power plants in Texas. Emissions from these plants will threaten Texans' health, contribute to global warming and poison local lakes and ponds with toxic mercury pollution. Send an email to the Governor. Urge him to slow down the review process so that cleaner energy alternatives can be considered. Go to www.stopTXU.com for more information and to take action.

Stop Bush from Adding Iran to this War!

Hey everybody, I just signed a petition to ask Congress to demand President Bush seek congressional authorization before considering military action in Iran. He seems out of control, and we have to stop the war in Iraq from escalating into a regional crisis. Congress can do this, but they need to hear from us. Can you sign? http://pol.moveon.org/noescalationiniran/ Thanks!

Classy Insults. :)

I had to gank this one from Thia's myspace bulletin...it's way too good not to share. :) "He has all the virtues I dislike and none of the vices I admire." -- Winston Churchill "I have never killed a man, but I have read many obituaries with great pleasure." -- Clarence Darrow "He has never been known to use a word that might send a reader to the dictionary." -- William Faulkner (about Ernest Hemingway) "Thank you for sending me a copy of your book; I'll waste no time reading it." -- Moses Hadas "He can compress the most words into the smallest idea of any man I know." -- Abraham Lincoln "I've had a perfectly wonderful evening. But this wasn't it." -- Groucho Marx "I didn't attend the funeral, but I sent a nice letter saying I approved of it." -- Mark Twain "He has no enemies, but is intensely disliked by his friends." -- Oscar Wilde "I am enclosing two tickets to the first nigh

What is going on with Deep Ellum??

Corporate land owners want to change Deep Ellum into condos and high rises. This is their official vision for the future of Deep Ellum. If you care and are on myspace, then make sure and add D.E.E.P (Deep Ellum Enrichment Project) as a friend. Repost this and make an effort to attend the meetings. D.E.E.P. is working closely with The Deep Ellum Association and other groups to prevent this vision from being realized. Remember this is just their "vision" for right now--it can be stopped, but we need people to rally and work to prevent this from happening. PLEASE REPOST

Texan Jokes :)

Here's one from the Sperm Donor that I thought was worth sharing. Hope y'all enjoy! The owner of a golf course in Lufkin was confused about paying an invoice, so he decided to ask his secretary for some mathematical help. He called her into his office and said, "You graduated from The University of Texas and I need some help. If I were to give you $20,000, minus 14% How much would you take off?" The secretary thought a moment, then replied, "Everything but my earrings." You gotta love those East Texas women! A group of Tyler friends went deer hunting and paired off in two's for the day. That night, one of the hunters returned alone, staggering under the weight of an eight-point buck. "Where's Henry?" the others asked. "Henry had a stroke of some kind. He's a couple of miles back up the trail," the successful hunter replied. "You left Henry laying out there and carried the deer back?" they inquired. "A tough cal

Reflections on Women Over 40 :)

I got this one from my Mom-Person and it was incorrectly attributed to Andy Rooney but the actual author is Frank Kaiser according to Snopes . Either way, it's funny and I thought it definitely worth sharing! :) As I grow in age, I value women over 40 most of all. Here are just a few reasons why: -A woman over 40 will never wake you in the middle of the night and ask, "What are you thinking?" She doesn't care what you think. -If a woman over 40 doesn't want to watch the game, she doesn't sit around whining about it. She does something she wants to do, and it's usually more interesting. -Women over 40 are dignified. They seldom have a screaming match with you at the opera or in the middle of an expensive restaurant. Of course, if you deserve it, they won't hesitate to shoot you if they think they can get away with it. -Older women are generous with praise, often undeserved. They know what it's like to be unappreciated. -Women get psychic as they age

UCLA Study. :)

Here's one from the Sperm Donor that made me laugh out loud...there are days when this is SO true! A study conducted by UCLA's Department of Psychiatry has revealed that the kind of face a woman finds attractive on a man can differ depending on where she is in her menstrual cycle. For example: If she is ovulating, she is attracted to men with rugged and masculine features. However, if she is menstruating, or menopausal, she tends to be more attracted to a man with duct tape over his mouth and a spear lodged in his chest while he is on fire. No further studies are expected.

Feed An Animal in Need Every Day - It's Free!

Here's one that Punky Spice sent over and I've been clicking to support the cause. Hope you guys will do the same for these animals in need! :) Pass it on! Over ten million animals are abused, neglected or abandoned yearly. You can help each day with a free click! Visit The Animal Rescue Site at http://www.theanimalrescuesite.com daily and click the purple "Fund Food for Animals" button. That simple action gives food to an abandoned or abused animal. There is no cost to you! Funding for nutritious food is paid by site sponsors and goes to nonprofit animal welfare organizations who use it to feed animals living in their shelters and sanctuaries. The Animal Rescue Site was launched in July of 2002 and has generated millions of bowls of food for rescued animals since then. With your help, many more animals will benefit in 2007! It all depends on the number of people who visit the site. Please click at The Animal Rescue Site once a day and forward this message on so more

Kids Say the Darndest Things :)

Here's a little funny from the Sperm Donor that I couldn't help sharing...hope it makes you smile today! JACK (age 3) was watching his Mom breast-feeding his new baby sister. After a while he asked: "Mom, why have you got two? Is one for hot and one for cold milk?" MELANIE (age 5) asked her Granny how old she was. Granny replied she was so old she didn't remember any more. Melanie said, "If you don't remember you must look in the back of your panties. Mine say five to six." STEVEN (age 3) hugged and kissed his Mom goodnight. "I love you so much, that when you die I'm going to bury you outside my bedroom window." BRITTANY (age 4) had an earache and wanted a painkiller. She tried in vain to take the lid off the bottle. Seeing her frustration, her Mom explained it was a childproof cap and she'd have to open it for her. Eyes wide with wonder, the little girl asked: "How does it know it's me?" SUSAN (age 4) was drinking jui

SCA Geeks Gone Wild ;-)

Here's a little something My Shelly sent over that I find completely amusing. Shouldn't this kid be allowed to have the picture he wants of himself in the yearbook? I think so...even if it's uber-geeky. ;-) http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/16607420/?GT1=8921
